Evidence Based Practice

The concept of healthcare professionals following evidence-based best practice is relatively new, really beginning in the 1970's. Previously expertise derived from experience was passed down as tradition. It now  attempts to encourage and, in some instances,  force professionals and other decision-makers to pay more attention to evidence to inform their decision-making. The goal of evidence-based practice/medicine is to eliminate unsound or outdated practices in favour of more effective ones by shifting the basis for decision making from tradition, intuition, and unsystematic experience to firmly grounded scientific research. Below is a short 4 minute presentation on the basics of EBM. The description of systematic reviews of particular importance.
